Good North Star metrics share three traits: they measure value delivered (not vanity), they are leading indicators of revenue, and the product team can directly influence them.

Tracking everything, understanding nothing

The most common failure mode. A team instruments 200 events in their first sprint, builds 12 dashboards, and six months later nobody can explain why activation dropped.
