How many slides should a pitch deck have?+
Twelve is the standard. Some investors prefer 10, some tolerate 15, but 12 gives you enough room to build the narrative without overstaying. The appendix does not count toward the slide count. If your deck exceeds 15 slides, you are either covering too many topics or cramming too much content per slide. Cut ruthlessly.
Should I send the deck before or after the meeting?+
Send a teaser version (slides 1-7) before the meeting to get the investor interested. Present the full deck in the meeting. Send the complete deck (with appendix) after the meeting for their partner review. Many investors make decisions based on the deck they read after the meeting, not the one you presented.
What if I do not have traction yet?+
Show whatever evidence of demand you have: waitlist signups, LOIs from potential customers, survey results, pilot engagement data, or even compelling customer discovery interviews. How do I calculate TAM, SAM, and SOM?+
Use bottom-up math whenever possible. Start with the number of potential customers in your specific segment, multiply by your expected annual contract value. Top-down numbers from analyst reports (like "the global CRM market is $80B") are less credible because they include segments you will never reach. What is the biggest mistake founders make in pitch decks?+
Burying the product. Many founders spend 5 slides on problem, market, and team before showing a single screenshot. Investors want to see what you have built. Move the product demo to slide 4 (as in this template) so the investor can visualize the solution while you explain the rest.
