Two weeks before launch for major features. One week for minor improvements. The messaging framework should be done first (day 1-3), then internal materials (day 4-7), then external content (day 8-12). Should every feature get a full announcement?+
No. Use a tiered approach. Major features (new capabilities, competitive differentiators) get the full template: email, blog, in-app, social. Reserve the full announcement for features that move a business metric.
How do I write good talking points for sales teams?+
Frame them as customer conversations, not feature descriptions. Each talking point should answer a customer question: "How do I do X today?" followed by "Now you can do X with [feature]." Include one competitive differentiator ("Unlike [competitor], our dashboards update in real time"). Test the talking points with one sales rep before distributing to the team.
What if the feature has limitations or known issues at launch?+
Be transparent in internal communications and selective in external ones. Internal teams need to know every limitation so they can set correct expectations. External messaging should acknowledge scope ("Phase 1 includes X. Cross-project dashboards coming in Q2") without listing every edge case. Honesty about scope builds trust.
How do I measure announcement effectiveness?+
Track three layers. Reach: email open rate, blog page views, in-app impression count. Engagement: email click-through rate, blog time-on-page, in-app CTA click rate.
