Event Management Platform Spec Template

Build event creation, registration with payment processing, email confirmations, a basic schedule builder, and on-site QR code check-in. These five capabilities let an organizer run a complete event. Add the attendee app, sponsor portal, and virtual streaming in Phase 2.

Build a configurable refund policy engine. The organizer sets the policy per event: full refund before X days, partial refund before Y days, no refund after Z days, or transfer-only. The system enforces the policy automatically. Always allow manual overrides for the organizer to handle exceptional cases.

Integrate. Video streaming infrastructure is expensive and technically complex. Use Zoom, Mux, or Agora via API and focus your engineering effort on the event experience layer: scheduling, networking, engagement, and analytics. Design registration for burst traffic. Queue management (virtual waiting room), database write optimization, and CDN-cached event pages are table stakes. Test with 10x your expected peak concurrent users. A crashed ticket page on launch day is a reputation-ending event for the platform.

Track gross merchandise value (total ticket revenue processed), events created per month, average tickets per event, organizer retention rate, and attendee satisfaction scores.
