Build a DICOM viewer that displays images from their existing imaging system (Dexis, Schick, Carestream). Do not try to replace the imaging acquisition software. The integration lets you deliver value without entering the imaging hardware market.

This is one of the highest-maintenance features. Define a coverage table structure: procedure code (or code range), coverage percentage, frequency limitation (e.g., "2 cleanings per benefit year"), age limits, and waiting periods. Provide both manual entry (for the billing team) and bulk import (from clearinghouse data). Plan for ongoing maintenance: insurance plans change annually, and your platform needs a workflow for updating coverage tables without disrupting in-progress claims. HIPAA is the baseline and non-negotiable. Implement encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access control, audit logging for all PHI access, and automatic session timeout.
