How often should health scores be recalculated?+
Weekly for usage-based dimensions (product adoption, login frequency, user breadth). Monthly for relationship-based dimensions (NPS, support sentiment). Real-time for financial dimensions (payment failures). Most teams run a weekly batch calculation that pulls the latest data for all dimensions.
Should customers see their own health score?+
No. Health scores are internal tools for your CS team. Telling a customer "your health score is 2.3 out of 5" is confusing and potentially damaging. Instead, use the score to prioritize outreach and share specific, actionable observations: "We noticed your team has not set up the reporting module yet. Want us to walk you through it?"
What is a good churn prediction accuracy for a health score model?+
A well-calibrated model should identify 70-80% of churning customers at least 30 days before renewal. If your model catches less than 50% of churns, your dimensions are not predictive enough. If it flags more than 30% false positives (customers flagged as at-risk who actually renew), your thresholds are too aggressive.
How does a health score relate to NPS?+
NPS is one dimension within the health score, not a replacement for it. NPS captures stated satisfaction at a point in time. A health score combines NPS with behavioral data (are they actually using the product?) and financial data (are they paying on time?). A customer can give you a 9 NPS and still churn because their champion left the company.
