Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a product workshop be?+
Most productive workshops run 60-90 minutes. Beyond 90 minutes, attention drops significantly. If your agenda requires more than 2 hours, split it into two sessions with a break in between. Short, focused workshops with clear objectives consistently outperform long, open-ended meetings.
How many people should attend a workshop?+
For working sessions where decisions are made, 4-8 participants is ideal. Beyond 8 people, side conversations start, airtime per person drops, and facilitation becomes significantly harder. For alignment or information-sharing workshops, up to 15 can work if you use structured activities like silent brainstorming and dot voting.
What if stakeholders cannot agree during the workshop?+
First, check whether the disagreement is about data or values. Data disagreements can be resolved by assigning someone to gather the missing information. Value disagreements require escalation to whoever owns the decision. Use the parking lot to capture unresolved items and set a deadline for resolution outside the workshop.
Should workshops be in-person or remote?+
In-person workshops produce better outcomes for complex, creative, or high-stakes topics. Remote workshops work well for structured activities like prioritization scoring, status reviews, and retrospectives. For remote workshops, use digital whiteboard tools and keep sessions under 60 minutes with frequent interaction points.
How do I handle pre-work that participants did not complete?+
Address it at the start. If the pre-work is essential, spend the first 10 minutes having participants review the materials silently. If only some participants completed it, pair them with those who did not for a quick brief. Do not skip the pre-work context entirely because the rest of the agenda depends on it.
