PM Blog Launch Template for Product Managers

For most PM blogs, 1000-2000 words is the sweet spot. Long enough to be substantive, short enough that busy PMs will read the whole thing. Deep-dive case studies can go to 2500 words. Quick takes and opinion pieces can be 600-800 words. Match the length to the complexity of the idea.

Block 60-90 minutes on the same day each week. Treat it like a recurring meeting you do not cancel. Write first drafts quickly without editing. Edit the next day with fresh eyes. Most PMs can write a solid 1200-word post in 2-3 hours once they have a system.

Check your employment agreement for content policies. Most companies are fine with employees writing about general PM practices. Avoid disclosing company strategy, unreleased product details, internal metrics, or anything covered by NDA. When in doubt, describe the pattern without naming the company: "At a Series B SaaS company where I worked" is sufficient context.

Start collecting emails from day one, even if you do not send a dedicated newsletter. Substack and personal websites make this easy. Your email list is the only audience you truly own. Social platforms change algorithms. Email lists persist.
