Two maximum: one review round and one revision round. If content needs a third round, the brief was unclear or the reviewer changed scope mid-process. Address root causes (better briefs, earlier alignment) rather than adding review rounds. More rounds do not improve quality; they slow velocity and frustrate authors.
What happens when a reviewer misses their SLA?+
Escalate on day one of the miss, not at the end. The author sends a reminder. If no response by end of day two, the content lead reassigns the review or waives it (for non-blocking review types). Build SLA tracking into your content tool so missed deadlines are visible to the team, not just the author.
Should I use the same workflow for all content types?+
No. Use the customization table above. Changelog entries should not go through a legal review. Blog posts should not skip voice review. Match the workflow rigor to the content risk. Over-processing low-risk content wastes time. Under-processing high-risk content creates liability.

Define an expedited path. Urgent content (security incidents, outage communications, competitive responses) gets a compressed workflow: author + PM approval, no voice review, publish immediately.
